So the numbers nerd in me did some calculating and worked out that so far my running mileage for the year is at 1,355km.
Great! Who knew I’d ever be running more than 100km in a year, never mind over 1000km. Very happy with that. 2020 really has been a strange year…!
But, in a bid to get a REALLY nice round number for the year, I’ve decided to round up to 1,500km. Realistic and doable, but at my current level and length of runs, it’ll certainly force me out of the door a bit more frequently or for some slghtly longer runs than I’ve been doing at the moment.
I know that this isn’t a big number or high mileage for many runners out there, but it’s not really about other people is it – this is just a little personal goal for the rest of 2020. I’m actually not that numbers driven and my run records certainly haven’t made it easy to figure out….Strava doesn’t give me monthly figures easily, Garmin does it in 4 week blocks rather than calendar months and as well as that, for the first 4 months of this year I used the Nike Running App to track my runs before I got my Garmin and linked to Strava. So the numbers are very much approximate across the three apps!
Lockdown in England is ‘formally’ ending next week, but various restrictions in place are still very high and we all still have a lot more time to fill, as well as our physical and mental health to maintain. So, what better way to spend another month of restrictions than by running a bit more?!
This post is mostly to keep myself accountable and to, for the first time ever, have a log of what I ran throughout this year. Given that last year I probably ran no more than 50km across the whole year (with most of that in December once I had my marathon place for this year!), this is certainly a change…

I will update this post in a few weeks’ time – last run of November completed today, ending the month on 85km. 4 more weeks of the year to go!
Hope to encourage anyone to set a personal running goal before the year is out – doesnt matter if it’s big or small, it’s just something to work towards. Could be mileage, could be number of runs a week, could be completing your training programme or getting further through Couch to 5k. Whatever it is – best of luck 🙂
